How to Get to Guangzhou, China from Macau

Guangzhou is one of the most popular cities in China and is known for being an industrialized and a centre for trade and commerce in whole China.  Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province and is one of the largest cities in China.  It is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world with a population of approximately 12 million people.

Guangzhou is situated at the Southern part of China and is in close proximity to Macau and Hong Kong.  It is so close that tourists spend a day in here as a side trip.  Aside from being the cosmopolitan city at the south of the country, the business centre, and hotspot of trade, it is also the home of the most attractive attractions showing modernity, but, at the same time exemplifying quintessential China.  The famous Pearl River cruising is one of the most popular tourist activities in Guangzhou and has attracted people all around the world.  Other points of interests are: Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Baiyun Mountain, Shamian Island, and Bright Filial Piety Temple.

How to Get to Guangzhou from Macau?

There are different mode of transportations available for those who would want to travel from Macau and visit Guangzhou.  There are direct shuttles to Guangzhou and train ride is actually very popular.  But, before you pack your bags and go to Guangzhou, make sure that you have a visa.  You may not be able to use the 72-hour transit visa as you will not be flying to Guangzhou and going to a third country.  If you are a citizen of Singapore, Brunei, and Japan, then you have up to 15-days visa exemption.

Direct Shuttle Service From Macau

The direct buses to Guangzhou are departing from Macau Beverly Plaza Hotel and Macau Metropark Hotel.  These two hotels are located in Macau Peninsula and near the Grand Lisboa Hotel.  Coming from the city centre of Macau, Senado Square, the hotels are accessible by walk, a 20-minute walking distance.  The travel will take 2 1/2 to 3 hours not including the border clearance.  The final destination in Guangzhou is at Jinan University.  Refer to below tables for schedule:

Gongbei Port, Zhuhai to Guangzhou

If you would like to pass by Gongbei Port in Zhuhai to go shopping before going to Guangzhou, there are two mode of transportations available for you.  One is by taking a shuttle which is approximately 2 hours to the final destination and the other, by train.  The train is a more faster way as it only takes an hour and twenty minutes ’til the final destination, Guangzhou South Rail Station.  The bus will stop also at Jinan University.  

Take any free shuttle service available from big hotels in Macau to Border Gate.  Exit Macau and cross the border to China.  During peak hours expect long queues, though.  Once you cross the border you will be arriving at Gongbei Port, Zhuhai.

Bus from Gongbei Port, Zhuhai to Guangzhou

Upon arrival at the Gongbei Port, proceed to the shopping centre and go two levels down to the bus station.  CTS Service Station is the operator of these buses.  For schedule, please refer below:

Train from Zhuhai Station to Guangzhou Station

Once you pass the immigration and arriving at Gongbei Port, turn left and the railway station shouldn’t be missed.  Walk to the train station and purchase a ticket to Guangzhou.  For English speakers, there is one English ticketing counter available for foreigners.  The first train leaves as early as 07:00 and the last train is departing at 22:45 pm.


Price:  RMB70 for economy class and RMB90 for first class

Once you arrive at Guangzhou, you can take a taxi or the subway to explore the place.  The subway is immediately available at Guangzhou (GZ) South.

Other popular places of interest in Guangzhou and how to get there.

Going to Chime Long Guangzhou

Take the train from Zhuhai railway station to Guangzhou South railway station, upon arrival proceed to Exit of North No. 1.  From North No. 1 take a free and direct shuttle bus to Chime Long Guangzhou.  The shuttle service leaves every 30 minutes from 09:30 am to 18:30 pm.

Other alternatives:  Subway and taxi.

Zhuhai to Guangzhou Airport

After you cross the China immigration, from Gongbei Port, cross the street and turn right until you see the Yongtong Hotel.  From Level 1, the ticketing counter at the right of Yongtong Hotel, you may take the coach to the airport.  Guangzhou Airport will be the third stop as the coach will stop by Xiangzhou station and Tangjiawan station before arriving at your destination.  The ride will take three hours, so better bring some snacks.
