There are two types of OFWs; the first type are OFWs who go out with friends anywhere on their rest day and can usually be spotted at the park, at the beach, at the bar or any place where their co-Filipinos usually frequent. After a very long week of tedious jobs, sometimes unappreciated, they choose to unwind and go anywhere to relax and have a good time. The second type are those who just want to stay at home, wake up very late and just watch TV or movies at the comfort of their flat/apartment.
This post is for the latter, I have compiled a list of TV shows (some shows are still continuing) as you’ll find below to binge-watch on your off day from work.
1. Breaking Bad
You must be living under a rock if you haven’t heard about this show, as it was the most popular show in most recent years. Walter White (you’ve heard about him, right?), was a chemistry teacher who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer who resorts to selling meth, with the help of a former student (Jesse Pinkman), to provide for his family when he is dead. The series started rather slow, I personally stopped halfway through episode 1 as I thought it was boring as hell. I was just convinced by a friend to continue watching and give it a chance which I did, and for that I’ll forever be thankful to him. I assure you that come season 3 when all things are starting to build up, you won’t be able to stop watching. You’re welcome! 🙂
Total # of episodes: 62
2. Prison Break
Michael Scofield, a structural Engineer, has made it his mission to save his brother, Lincoln Burrows who is sent on death row for a crime he didn’t commit. He deliberately sent himself to prison (same penitentiary) to help his brother break out. Breaking bad is arguably a better TV show, but Prison break is a series you will watch over and over and over again.
Total # of episodes: 81
The show started when a plane from Australia bound to US crash-lands on an isolated island, leaving forty-eight survivors. You will see them struggle to survive and find a way to get off the island. This is one show when you have to expect the unexpected and be surprised with where the show takes you. On its final season make sure to have your tissues ready, for it has become an emotional roller-coaster.
Total # of episodes: 118
4. House of Cards
Congressman Frank Underwood, played by the great Kevin Spacey, has been working on his revenge on the people who betrayed him and he is getting help from his team led by his equally conniving wife to achieve his goal.
Total # of episodes: 39
5. Band of Brothers
This is the story of Easy Company led by Captain Winters of the US Army 101st Airborne division and their mission in WWII Europe from their initial training until the end of the war. This is easily one of the best and most emotional WWII movies/series of all time.
Total # of episodes: 10
6. The Sopranos
Brilliant. Magnificent. Masterful. Excellent. These are just some of the adjectives being associated with this series. This series has topped almost all the lists of all time best TV series and I can’t argue with that. It is about a New Jersey mob boss, Tony Soprano and how he deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life.
Total # of episodes: 86
7. Game of Thrones
This is for me the TV series that redefined TV viewing. Whether you read the book or not and don’t easily get offended with gore, violence and nudity then you’ll definitely love the show. The story is about several noble families fighting for the throne and control of the fictional land of Westeros. The next season will premiere April of next year, so this is the best time to watch it, if you haven’t.
P.S. Don’t get too attached with any of the characters, you’ll regret it sooner than you think.
Total # of episodes: 50
8. The Walking Dead
Former Sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma to discover that the world has been occupied by walkers (zombies). Rick and his small group of survivors will find their way to survive against the threat of the walkers and of others humans. This is a TV series you wouldn’t expect to be good as it revolves around zombies, but with how they’ve built up the story plus the characters development they have created something worth watching. But watch it fast as the mid season will premiere on February.
Total # of episodes: 75
9. How I Met Your Mother
Ted. Barney. Robin. Lily. Marshal. Five characters you’ll wish to have as friends. This is definitely the ultimate friendship series for me. This is the series where a father, Ted Mosby tells to his children through flashbacks, the journey he and his four best friends took leading up to him meeting their mother. This show, as barney said is LEGEN – wait for it – and I hope you are not lactose intolerant because the second half of the word is dary – LEGENDARY!
Total # of episodes: 208
This is the story of the doctors, nurses, interns and patients in the fictional world of Sacred Heart Hospital. This is a TV sitcom, a comedy series but it has brought me more tears than any drama series on TV. What I love about the show? The lines are smart and funny, the characters are too likeable and engaging, the greatest bromance on TV, the ending of each episode, the life lessons they teach us, the reality of life and the music, oh the music.
